First week a success

Hello everyone,
Give yourselves a round of applause for making it to the weekend! The first week can be a hard ajustement, especially when you're new to the school such as myself, but I think everyone had a great week!
We began the morning with Phys. Ed. class, discussing the body parts we need to engage when we want to suddenly stop, change height levels, or change directions. We practiced these techniques in a few games and then tried them out for real during dodge ball ;)
In French, everyone is getting to know the different "work stations" for "5 au quotidien". Reading level groups have been made so we will begin with the actual "5 au quotidien" process on Monday. Students will also receive their 10 spelling words for the week.
In math, we are continuing to practice our 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication. Some students are using my suggested strategies, while others are using their own. Many students still need practice, and I suggest doing some multiplication games (hard copy or online) over the weekend if they have finished their assigned work (check out links in Something Extra). Below, again, is the chart detailing the 3 strategies I taught.

We finished the day with health class. In order to set personal fitness goals, we must first know what areas we can make fitness goals in. Students discussed a certain fitness area in breakout groups and then reported back to their group to teach them the new information they found out about that fitness area. I have asked that if they did not complete their chart in class to do so over the weekend. Here are the 4 fitness areas for reference.

Just before the bell, we had our Community Circle, and a couple of students shared that they had enjoyed their first week. I certainly did too. I'm a very lucky teacher, and I'm excited for the year ahead.
***Some students have been asking me about taking books home, as they should be reading 20min in English and 20min in French every day. The librarian has just informed us that we can begin taking books out the week of Sept 19th. If you do not have a French and English book to read at home, students can sign out a book from the classroom until they can take them out form the library.
Have a wonderful weekend!
