Exploring first explorers

What a packed day!

After a rotation of 5 au quotidien, we read a book called Fatima et les voleurs de clémentines to again look at the 6 Big Questions. Using feedback they received on their first worksheet from yesterday, students were much faster at pulling out information to address the questions.

We began division in math, dividing "juice" equally into "thermoses." As multiplication and division go hand in hand, we haven't seen the end of it just yet!

The afternoon consisted of learning about European explorers' first encounter with Indigenous Peoples and touched on some of the first issues they faced. We watched many clips from the Heritage Moments of Canada (who else remembers those 1min clips on TV? They were the best!). Students were then asked to research what the Europeans and First Nations groups traded and most were very engaged in finding out on their device. We found that many First Nation groups provided the Europeans with furs and pelts, showed them what food to eat, and gave them knowledge of the land, in exchange for goods such as metal knives, pots, muskets, and beads. We will be continuing our inquest into Canada's history next week, but please feel free to discuss these topics at home.

We had Health and Phys.Ed to end the day. We took our pulse several times during our activities, and this information will be used at a later date. Or maybe even tomorrow in math class...hmm....

Have a great evening! À demain!
