It was a strange weather day but still productive in Room 12.
We began in the library with Mrs Greer, who led discussions on how to respect the library and how to check out books. We hope we can start taking them out soon! Our 5 au quotidien followed.
First recessed we got rained in, but students found ways of amusing themselves....

In math we discussed estimating division answers through looking for compatible numbers. For example, if we have the equation 4898 / 5, we can find a compatible number that is easily divisible by 5 to help us find an approximate answer. If we round the first number to 5000, now we can much more easily divide it by five (5000 / 5 = 1000) While it's not the exact answer, we made a good estimation that 4898 / 5 will be around 1000.
Here's the link to a good video that goes over it again.
The rest of the afternoon was dedicated to art. We looked at many images of graffiti, including Graffiti Alley in downtown Toronto, and discussed what we saw, how we felt about the image, and graffiti in general. I demonstrated some techniques they could use in their art piece and students set to work.

Students can continue to work on them after finishing their work in class, and can take them home on the weekend to finish if needed.
