Our personal stories are really coming along! Several students are beginning their rough copies. I showed them Storybird and many seemed interested! I will give out passwords and usernames next week so that students can start using this site for their good copy if they so choose.
We continued with decimals in math, this time ordering decimals from largest number to smallest, noticing that we first need to look at the unités (ones), then the dixièmes (tenths), and then the centièmes (hundredths) to help us put the decimal numbers in order. Base 10 blocks can be helpful for visualizing this. For those who didn't finish in class, p.49 Q #3, 4, 5, 6 were to be completed at home.

The afternoon was dedicated to an art project. We were looking at paintings of birch trees, and discussing colour, line, texture, and depth. Some paintings had been done with very thick paint that created a 3D-like texture, while others used big trees in the foreground and small skinny ones in the background to create a feeling of walking into the forest. After a demonstration of some techniques, students set to work making a tissue paper background, white paper birch trees, and details in black paint. A few people need to finish up, and then they can be displayed!
PS many students look very serious in their art-making, but I assure you we had some fun...
