Today began with Phys. Ed, where we played a strange dodgeball /relay and a 4 corners version of capture the flag. Ask your child how they worked!
For French, we continued with our 5 au quotidien. Monday we will finishing up the last bit of our planning and everyone should be starting or working on the rough copy of their personal narrative.
In math, we tried a few more rounding decimals questions before lunch. After lunch, we quickly reviewed adding and subtracting 3 digit by 3 digit numbers, and how the only difference for adding or subtracting decimals is that you need to add a comma in your answer.
E.g.,
2 , 3 4 8 , 9 4
+ 5 , 1 2 - 6 , 3 3
7 , 4 6 2 , 6 1
If you were absent today, perhaps make up a few practice questions, or find some on the internet. If you're still unsure about rounding, there are lots of good tutorials on the internet. Here's a helpful Youtube video:
Health was last period (which was also interrupted with a fire drill....our class was wonderful, as per usual). We were discussing the terms "self-concept," "emotional well-being," "reputation," and "self-esteem." It may be helpful to explore these more at home. We wrote down 6 of our personality traits and then tried to eliminate 2 of them. Most students found this very difficult. I then asked if they felt like themselves, missing those 2 traits - it was a unanimous no. Ask your child what traits they chose to write down and how it felt having to "take away" two of them.
We then began reading stories about bullying. Students tried to put themselves in the characters' shoes in order to answer questions about the characters' self-concept, emotional well-being, reputation, and self-esteem...It wasn't as easy as it may have looked at first!
For homework this weekend, please read in English and in French, both for 20min a day at least. Please practice math if necessary. And I've also asked students to bring their own device for Monday (if you can, if you would like to).
Have a super weekend!
