On a rainy morning, we completed our daily 5 and discussed characters of narrative texts. We talked about how important details are when creating a character for a story, and started working on describing a character from a book, movie, or their imagination. Students need to describe their characters thoughts, actions, dialogue, interactions, and appearance. We will be continuing these tomorrow.

In math, we tackle a patterning problem that was a bit different than usual, as the pattern began in the middle and expanded by adding a layer of tiles around the outside each time. Ask your child if they can describe it or draw it for you! I also put tables on the board and asked students to represent them through drawing or with blocks. Here are some creative ideas:

For science, we explored the conservation of energy. We talked about different ways to conserve energy in our homes, the difference between incandescent and florescent lightbulbs, and isolation in homes and schools. Students then walked around the school to test the gaps between the doors and windows - ask your child how we did this!

Last period was physical education in the gym. We played tunnel tag, and began working on net/wall skills with volleyballs. Net/wall games/skills is our new unit for the next few weeks.

Just a reminder that our dictée is tomorrow! Stay dry!
