This morning was a bit different, as we had a few things to address. I was away yesterday at a PD session, and wanted to read the note left for the class by the supply teacher. Here are a few quotations from the note: "This is a wonderful class - you are right! They were AWESOME. No problems to report." "Congratulations on creating such a respectful environment!" - well, I won't lie, this almost teared me up haha. Your children ARE all amazing and respectful and it was wonderful to hear from another person as well. We've worked hard to create our classroom environment.

Then we went to the library and exchanged books, discussed how to pick an appropriate-level book, read silently, and then used the MakerSpace activities.

After APQ outside, we had a community circle addressed inclusion. We discussed how it feels to be left out, why working with different people could be a great experience, and how even if they're not your favourite person, you still need to show respect. I had great participation from several students.

To finish our language time, the remaining students presented their research projects on the First Nations topic they had chosen. What interesting things they found out!

In math, we are continuing with time. All students seem to be reading an analog clock well, but we still need to work on calculating elapsed time. Here is a technique (time lines) that I've found effective for calculating elapsed time. You could practice these at home with your child, using examples from your daily routine (e.g., Hockey practice starts at 7:30 and by the time we get home it is 9:25. How long did hockey practice take?)

The end of the day was spent on finishing their houses for science - there were many wonderful ideas for conserving energy! I will take some pictures to share tomorrow. This evening, I've asked students to find 5 things they are already doing at home to conserve energy.
