Remembrance Assembly

We had quite a mishmash of a day today (it's ok, it's Friday!). In a last minute invitation, our class had the privilege of attending a Remembrance Assembly where members of Legion, veterans, and two WWII veterans spoke about their lives and answered questions. Our class was extremely respectful even though it was very hard to hear and they had to sit for about 100minutes. Please ask your child what they found was the most interesting part of the assembly. We debriefed quickly in class afterwards, but obviously I can't answer all the questions they may have.

After first break, we had our dictée and then looked over some math questions completed a previous day to see how different students had come up with an answer. We decided that there were a few ways to get to the answer, but that showing a neat time line, the operations used to figure out the answer, and then a final sentence that answers the question asked would get you to a level 4.

We then had half an hour to do our 5 au quotidien. Here are some students using the different centres.

After second break, we started a new task for social studies. There's a wonderful online game created by Carleton University about Treaty No9 and the First Nations Cree and Ojibway groups. We explored for just a few minutes in class, but will continue another class. Students are welcome to explore over the weekend. Here is the link:

Last period we continued improving our volleyball skills. We used mats as nets and rotated playing different pairs. We also practiced calling for the ball (think those annoying seagulls in Finding Nemo...mine! mine! mine! mine!)

As promised, here are the photos of our science projects on conserving energy in the home.
