Fabulous Friday

We made it folks! It's Friday! And what a gorgeous November day it was!

This morning we had a quick rotation of 5 au quotidien, got our dictée completed, and then headed outside for APQ. We don’t normally have APQ on Day 1 as we already have physEd, but it was just too nice out to stay inside! We then came back in and discussed the revision process of writing, using the acronym POSAM. Students helped me correct a short passage I had written using the revision steps. Wow, Mlle made quite a few mistakes…

After recess, we had some more fun with capacity and volume. We took a measurement of how much water was in our measuring cup, added some objects (e.g., an eraser, marbles), and measured how much the water level had risen. The difference told us the volume of our object! Pretty cool.

Math was followed by Social Studies, where we watched two clips, one on the life of a voyageur or coureur de bois in New France in the 1700s, and the other of the life of a boy working at the Hudson’s Bay trading post. Many students thought it was neat that the department store had such a long history! After the videos, we discussed what qualities a good voyageur or trader would need to possess (e.g., strength, learning many Indigenous languages, patience) and each student chose the job they thought they would prefer to do. Meanwhile, students were going up one by one to make “old paper” (i.e soaking paper in tea and then crumpling it up). After students had chosen a job, they imagined they were writing home to their family in France, telling them about their new life and job in New France. A couple of students finished, but we will have more time to continue next week.

Last period for physEd we of course went outside. We played a few rounds of capture the flag (a good territory/invasion game but also a crowd favourite) and then had a bit of free time in the sunshine. A great way to end a great week! Just a reminder to please read over your child’s progress report, return the “goal” portion on the bottom, and make an interview appointment.

Have a safe and wonderful weekend! For Santa’s breakfast auction basket, please bring “Winter/Outdoor” item to help fill the basket! (e.g., hockey puck, mittens)
