Collecting Data

We started off our chilly morning with our 5 au quotidien, a couple of groups getting to play a new memory/vocabulary game I bought this weekend at the Ontario Modern Language Teachers Association. We braved it outside for APQ before continuing work on the back of our books. Most students are editing each others and many will begin their good copies soon.

In math, we have started data management. We talked about the difference between primary and secondary data, as well as what careers would use this kind of info (there were tons!). Then students came up with a short survey to ask other class members, so that we could practice using the data. Here's some surveying in action:

After we had our data, we looked at pictograms (pic as in picture!). Students put their data into pictogram form until it was time for English. We will be looking at other diagrams this week.

During music, we looked at pitch, duration, and dynamics in several movie soundtracks. It was interesting to see which ones stood out to students and how they analyzed each one. For the rest of the period, we talked about music and sound effects in movies, with students creating their own music and sound effects to go with a short skit. The ones we saw so far were um...quite creative?
