Crazy afternoon...

We started this morning with some updates of things in the classroom - each student has a "Parles en français" sticker on their desk, to remind them to speak in French in class. Really only a few students need this reminder, but the amount of English used just isn't acceptable for a Grade 5 FI class. Students speaking English will receive marks on their page, which deducts the amount of time they have for MakerSpace in the library on Day 5.

We are also starting reading logs. Students need to write the date, the book they're reading, and have a parent/guardian sign that they've read at least 20min a day of French at least 5x a week. This will count towards their reading mark.

On a more fun note, we've started our chocolate advent calendar countdown to the Winter Holidays!

After all the housekeeping, we worked on the good copies of our French stories and had one round of 5 au quotidien.

The middle block was quite messy! We had 20min of math, where we discussed how to decide what scale to use on the vertical axis of a graph (e.g., count by 2s, by 50s). Students practiced with the data that they had previously collected. We then enjoyed 25min in the library, creating our Scholastic book wish lists for the Book Fair this week! Then it was off to our Respect - Empathy assembly. Congrats to those who received an award!

After lunch, we continued with math, and began basketball as a territory/invasion game in phys.Ed class. We worked on zones and layups, which still require a bit more work!

Please remind your child to keep their belongings neatly in the hallway (e.g., boots against the wall, coats on hooks, mittens and scarves in bag) as I won't begin a lesson until the hallway is clear! Most students are really great at this already, and we are by no means the worst class at this haha, but there's always room for improvement. Thanks!
