The Moccasin Project

Yesterday we had the privilege of having our board's FNMI Education Director come to our class to teach us about the Moccasin Project, talk to us about the long term effects of residential schools, and help us make moccasins! If you haven't already read my blog post explaining briefly what the project is about, please scroll down and do so, it's an important read!

Students worked hard to cut, hole punch, and then carefully sew the hide to create one baby moccasin (their partner creates the other foot). We finished sewing around the toe part, the heel will be another day. Ask your child what they learned and what it was like to be making a shoe for someone else!

A special thanks to our 2 mum volunteers. If missed this time but would still like to volunteer, we will be working on them this Thursday (Jan 26th) again, from 1:35-3:00. Please let me know if you're available via email or agenda note :)

Our work will be displayed out by the office when we're finished, so I'll let you know when to come check them out! Meanwhile, here are some students in action:

Some students stayed in to help draw and cut.
