Valentine's Day!

We tried getting back to normal after our EIGTH snow day by starting off with some science. We read about what makes a change a chemical change (e.g., change in colour, creation of gas, creation of heat, irreversible) and discussed some examples. Then we looked at some of my very cool candles, whose flame glows the same colour as the candle wax! But how could this be? Students made interesting predictions, and then we found out that there are different metals in the candle wax (e.g., copper for the green flame) that make it burn a different colour. Hot stuff.

Then we had a bit of time to exchange cards and have a few munchies before snack time! After first break we started tackling fractions. We made our own fraction strips out of construction paper, and tried using them to make a few fractions written on the board. Then it was time to get our dance on in the gym for the Valentine's Day dance!

In the afternoon, we finished our critiques of YouTube videos using our procedural writing success criteria, and then headed outside for phys.Ed. It was a nice day outside! We did a few games of Cross Canada and played in the great packing snow.

X-country skiing today! Come prepared!
