Rolling the dice...

We had a rather chill (weather pun intended) morning, working on our book reports, having a dance break, and doing 5 au quotidien.

After warming up from being outside, we explored probability using dice. Each pair of students had 3 dice, and they rolled at 3, added them together, and recorded their result.

We realized that it was improbable to roll 3, 4, 17, or 18, and then explored why by seeing how many different combinations we could find for each result. Things got a bit messy, but it was great to see everyone participating, writing answers on the board, and trying out different things. We concluded that the chance of rolling 3 or 18 was about 1/60, while rolling numbers in the middle, such as 10 or 11 had a 1/10 chance.

In the afternoon, we explored how to become a Canadian citizen! Students answered some questions from a great website http://citizenshipcounts.ca , and even tried a mock citizenship exam that people would take to become a citizen. You can try the quiz at home and see how you do!
